Frequently Asked Questions About Commercial & Residential Plumbing

Below are some questions that we often get related to our commercial and residential plumbing services. Please feel welcome to contact The Harrisburg Plumbers with any additional questions you may have. We would be happy to answer them!

WHEN IS THE RIGHT TIME FOR PLUMBING LEAK REPAIRS, AND WHEN SHOULD YOU GO FOR A REPLACEMENT?

Deciding whether to repair or replace a leaky pipe depends on a number of factors. What’s the size of the leak? Where is the leak located within your plumbing system? An experienced plumber can assess the nature of your leak and walk you through your options.

Our plumbers offer specialized solutions for every part of your home plumbing system:

    • Bathroom pipe leak repair: bathrooms are notorious as an area where leaky pipes can occur. There are several opportunities for water to leak when you’ve got a toilet, sink, bathtub, and shower in the room.

    • Kitchen pipe leak repair: your kitchen is another area where you might find unwanted water leaks near a dripping faucet or leaky refrigerator.

    • Basement pipe leak repair: basement leaks sometimes go unnoticed for longer than they should. Basement leaks can damage your floors, walls, and any belongings you have stored. This can also lead to mold growth.

    • Laundry room pipe leak repair: Washing machines, utility sinks, and water lines can hide leaks, which combined with dryer exhaust, can rapidly lead to mold growth.

WHAT ARE THE SIGNS MY WATER HEATER NEEDS REPAIRS?

If you’re like most people, then you probably don’t spend much time thinking about your water heater unless you notice a problem. However, catching an issue early on can help you avoid catastrophic breakdowns that could take more time and money to repair. Here are a few common signs that your water heater needs repairs:

  • Discolored or iron-scented water

  • Slow heating or lack of warm water

  • Water not getting hot enough

  • Fluctuation in temperature

  • Low water pressure or leaks

WHAT ARE THE SIGNS I NEED A SEWER REPAIR?

Your sewer line has an important job. It carries wastewater from your home and into the sewer main where it eventually gets treated at a wastewater treatment plant. Over time, your sewer line can become clogged from debris and if it’s not cleared effectively, it can crack or corrode.

To help prevent the need for an entire residential sewer replacement, here are some common signs to look for so you can replace them in a timely manner.

  • Sewage backups: if your sewer line is clogged, the sewage has nowhere to go so you may experience sewage backing up into your drains.

  • Unpleasant odors: even if you can’t see sewage, you may definitely smell it. Sewage has a foul odor, similar to rotten eggs. If you start to notice unpleasant odors in your home, especially your drains, it could be a sign your sewer line is full.

  • Soggy Lawn: when an underground sewer line is damaged, sewage may begin to pool in your yard. When this happens, you’ll experience standing water and areas of your lawn that are much greener than other parts.

  • Spikes in your water bill: is your water bill surprisingly higher than it should be? It could be a problem with your sewer line. If you can’t seem to explain the rise in your water bill, it might be a good idea to have a plumber inspect your plumbing.
